Magazine Review

Eye
No 75. Vol 19. Spring 2010

Typography Special/ Peter Bilak/ Lettering as Illustration/ Modern Toss/ Anthony Burrill

This magazine is mainly aimed at people who are interested in typography or illustration because that's what the main sections of this volume consist of.
The price of the magazine is £17, which I think is an OK average for an artist magazine.
The articles in the magazine are mainly about Peter Bilak but it also has one page advertisements for different artists or designers.

One article by Fraser Muggeridge on 'Typography with words' helps to explain how to use and read typography and also it lists 19 pieces of work that he likes which includes artist names, titles, galleries and dates of exhibitions.

One page that does interest me is 'Punctuation Networking Event' because it shows how the use of punctuation has changed over time and how it is used for faces and swearwords more than its actual primary original use.

Halfway through the magazine (pg 49-64) the pages turn glossy for a different effect and to show this part of the magazine to be more expensive. I think that  this is effective because the pages feel smoother and more expensive.

Near to the end there is an advertisement for 'Nissan's Multifaceted Cube Car' the advertisement is very graphical and shows how bespoke the car is.
